Whoever, being under sentence of 1
[imprisonment
for life], commits murder, shall be punished with death.

Whoever, being under sentence of imprisonment for
life, commits murder, shall be punished with death or with imprisonment for life, which shall mean the
remainder of that person’s natural life.
