The Office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income-tax, Karnataka & Goa Region, celebrated the 167th Income Tax Day at Cauvery Hall, C.R. Building, Bengaluru. The event commemorated the rich legacy of the Income Tax Department and its continued commitment to nation-building through an efficient, transparent, and taxpayer-centric administration. The celebration assumed special significance this year as it marked the Department's first Income Tax Day following the implementation of the Income-tax Act, 2025, ushering in a new era of simplified and modern direct tax administration while building upon 167 years of distinguished service to the nation.

The function was presided over by Smt. Vidisha Kalra, IRS, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income-tax, Karnataka & Goa Region, and was graced by Shri Nandan Nilekani, Chairman and Co-founder of Infosys and Founding Chairman of UIDAI (Aadhaar), as the Chief Guest. Welcoming the gathering, Smt. Vidisha Kalra highlighted the Department's ongoing transformation into a transparent, technology-driven, and taxpayer-centric institution through key initiatives such as faceless assessments and the new Income-tax Act, 2025. She emphasized that the Department's evolving role is founded on trust, collaboration, and voluntary compliance, with taxpayers and stakeholders serving as essential partners in nation-building. She added that the presence of Shri Nandan Nilekani added special significance to the celebrations, inspiring participants through his insights on technology-enabled governance and inclusive national development.

In his keynote address, Chief Guest Shri Nandan Nilekani lauded the Income Tax Department as a pioneer in technology-driven governance, highlighting its leadership in digital transformation through landmark initiatives including PAN, CPC, online filing, faceless assessments, and the Annual Information Statement (AIS). He noted that technology-driven reforms have significantly enhanced taxpayer services by enabling faster return processing, quicker refunds, and improved compliance. Shri Nilekani also appreciated the Department's role in integrating PAN with Aadhaar and emphasized the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence and digital public infrastructure in building a more transparent, efficient, and taxpayer-centric tax administration.

During the event, a broadcast message from the Hon'ble Chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), was presented to the gathering, followed by a video showcase highlighting the major achievements and initiatives of the Income Tax Department during Financial Year 2025-26. As part of the proceedings, the Chief Guest felicitated outstanding departmental sportspersons for their contributions to promoting excellence in sports. The event concluded with the presentation of the Principal Chief Commissioner's Awards for Meritorious Service and Certificates of Excellence to officers and officials in recognition of their exemplary dedication, outstanding performance, and distinguished service to the Department.
