The Ministry of Textiles observed Gandhi Jayanti on 2 October 2026 with a series of Swachhta and cleanliness activities under Special Campaign 6.0, reaffirming its commitment to promoting cleanliness, hygiene and a culture of responsible workplace practices.

The programme was led by Secretary (Textiles) at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Delhi, and was attended by senior officers of the Ministry of Textiles, faculty members and staff of NIFT Delhi. On the occasion, the Swachhta Pledge was administered, with participants reaffirming their commitment to maintaining cleanliness and contributing towards a cleaner and healthier environment.

A cleanliness drive was also undertaken at the NIFT Delhi campus, with active participation of officers, faculty and staff. The activities focused on improving cleanliness and upkeep of the premises, promoting proper waste management and sensitising participants towards maintaining clean and hygienic surroundings.

The observance of Gandhi Jayanti under Special Campaign 6 underscores the Ministry of Textiles’ continued efforts to institutionalise Swachhta in its offices and field establishments and to encourage collective participation in creating clean, well-maintained and sustainable workplaces. The Ministry continues to accord priority to cleanliness, disposal of obsolete and unusable items, better workplace management and sustained improvement in cleanliness standards as part of the Special Campaign.

Textile Waste Collection Drive starting this Gandhi Jayanti

As part of the initiative, starting this Gandhi Jayanti, 2nd October 2026, a dedicated textile waste collection bins have been installed at various locations. The initiative seeks to further strengthen the spirit of Jan Bhagidari and collective action towards a clean and sustainable India, with emphasis on cleanliness, responsible waste management, and the adoption of sustainable practices.

The initiative aims to promote responsible collection, segregation, recycling and upcycling of post-consumer textile waste and to encourage sustainable waste-management practices in Central Government office complexes and residential colonies in New Delhi. All officers and officials have been requested to actively participate in the drive by bringing and depositing their post-consumer textile waste in the designated collection bins during the campaign period

As part of the Implementation Phase of Special Campaign 6, Officers and employees of the attached and subordinate offices of Ministry of Textiles actively participated in the Swachhta Pledge, reaffirming their commitment towards cleanliness, hygiene and maintaining a clean and sustainable working environment.

As part of the campaign, a comprehensive cleanliness and de-cluttering drive was undertaken at the National Jute Board premises at Patsan Bhawan, Kolkata, and the Regional Office, New Delhi, from 2nd to 4th October 2026
