The National Zoological Park (NZP), New Delhi, celebrated its 67th Foundation Day on 01.11.2026 with an engaging doodle activity for visitors, reaffirming its commitment to wildlife conservation, biodiversity awareness and environmental education. The activity received an enthusiastic response, with approximately 1,500 visitors appreciating and participating in the initiative. It provided an interactive and creative platform, particularly for children and families, to express their ideas and connect with the importance of protecting wildlife and nature.
On the occasion, Dr. Sanjeet Kumar, Director (NZP) highlighted, “The 67th Foundation Day is an important milestone in the Park’s journey and an occasion to renew our commitment to wildlife conservation, animal welfare, biodiversity protection and public engagement. A modern zoo is not merely a place to see animals; it is a centre for conservation, learning, research and inspiration. Every visitor, especially every child can become an ambassador for nature through informed and responsible choices”. He invited citizens to connect with the National Zoological Park, learn about rich biodiversity and join in protecting wildlife and the natural world for future generations.
As part of its ongoing efforts to encourage public participation in biodiversity monitoring and wildlife conservation, the National Zoological Park organised the 19th edition of ‘Sunday Bird Walk @ NZP’ today, from 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM. The walk was conducted under the expert guidance of Dr. Paritosh Ahmed, Ornithologist, with the support of dedicated volunteers.
A total of 18 participants, including bird enthusiasts, nature lovers, students, wildlife photographers and citizens interested in biodiversity, took part in the programme. During the walk, participants recorded 46 bird species and observed more than 500 individual birds in the designated area. The observations contributed to field-level biodiversity documentation and provided participants with a practical opportunity to engage in citizen science. The expert shared insights into bird ecology, behaviour and conservation, highlighting the role of birds in maintaining ecological balance including through natural pest control and their value as indicators of ecosystem health.
Addressing the participants, Director (NZP) emphasised that nature walks strengthen field-identification skills, deepen understanding of ecological relationships and food webs, support biodiversity documentation and foster a lasting appreciation of wildlife conservation. To ensure meaningful learning and effective participation, each Sunday Bird Walk is limited to 20–25 participants. Prior registration is mandatory, and places are allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. The registration form remains open from Monday to Friday each week.
